It's a little difficult to see the part number on the device that appears to be a transistor... More importantly, notice the chip underneath the capacitor in all that hot-glue! Also, there's another chip in the midst of all the LED's:

Opening the brick was pretty easy, but digging the board out to see the bottom side required unsoldering a connection to a battery clip (circled in white):
